User Research
As part of the exploration into improving VIA’s app for bus services, it was essential to examine the current app at the time being used for tracking routes. By delving into these specific details, we identify strengths and areas for improvement, ensuring the app provides an optimal experience for all users.
When and how often is the bus tracker app used?
What features are most important to users?
What type of notifications do users respond to the most?
What are the 3 most used features on the bus app?
Meet the Users
Name: Jasmine
Age: 22
Occupation: Part-time Student and Full-time Retail Worker
Jasmine is a student who is currently working on getting degree and a handle on living on her own. Unfortunately, her parents do not have a car to pass down to her, but since San Antonio is a larger city than the town she’s from, she’s able to use public transit to get to and from work and school. She’s currently saving money to buy a car when she graduates and begins working in her industry.
Name: Donna
Age: 42
Occupation: Single Mom and Full-time Retail Worker
Donna is a mother of 2 children who are in middle and high school. After her divorce, she was forced to move into an apartment downtown. Her car is currently in the shop for repairs and is getting around to town with VIA buses. Because she is new to this method of transportation in a new town, she is struggling to track buses and routes.
User-Centric Redesign
Enhancing the VIA Go app meant restructuring its design to prioritize the user experience. This included a comprehensive overhaul of user journeys and process flows to ensure a seamless and intuitive interaction with the app. Some key features include streamlined navigation and an enhanced schedules page. These updates aim to provide a more efficient user-friendly experience, so passengers can navigate the app effortlessly and have access to essential information quickly.
Conclusion
This project exemplifies my ability to analyze user needs and design pitch decks that are effective and visually appealing. By focusing on the user's needs, I was able to streamline navigation, improve search functionalities, and build a story around the bus rider’s experience.
